Step Two:

When the design is finalized, I number the pieces and print the pattern at a fraction of its final size. I take the pattern to a professional reprographics for enlargement to scale. Then, using special pattern shears, I cut the pattern into its various parts. The pattern shears remove a thin strip between each pattern piece. Doing so allows room for the lead that will be used later. In the above picture, you can see that there is a slim strip of paper on the right hand side that is being removed. You can also see that the top half of the shears has a split blade to allow for this special cut.
